Afternoon Delight? And Into the Evening Too 9/13 Orioles Win 3-2 in 14 Innings

    Written by Michael Williams

Ok. Joe Maddon and his St Petersburg Machinators needed this one to avoid a sweep at the hands of the first place Baltimore Orioles. They could have got it, they should have got it. But in the end, Buck Showater outmanaged him and won the war of attrition by being the last man standing. Do not attempt this at your own home. It is guaranteed to be disastrous without the steady hand of Buck Showalter at the controls.

The Rays scored first. Chen pitched great bu the Orioles offense was quiet until Taylor Teagarden plated two with a double. He only gets extra base hits and they always score runs.

    ORIOLES 2 RAYS 1

The Rays scored on a infield squibber that Manny Machado had to eat.

Fast forward seven innings and 6 and 2/3rd inning of Orioles scoreless relief.

With two down in the bottom of the 14th inning, Adam Jones drew a walk. Endy Chavez 2 for 2 on the day with a walk, singled to move him to second. Manny Machado drove a ball down the left field line that Matt Joyce was unable to catch.

    Orioles Win 3-2

The streak of 14 consecutive losing season is officially over.
