    Orioles Claim Russ Canzler

    Baltimore Orioles have claimed Russ Canzler off waivers from the New York Yankees. Canzler, 26, was designated for assignment by the Yankees.

    Canzler has been claimed off waivers four times by four different teams. He spent 2012 with the Indians, the Blue Jays claimed him on December 21 before the Indians brought him back on January 2. Yankees claimed Jan 4 before being designated for assignment on February 1.

    In his 29 career major league games with the Rays and Indians, Canzler has hit .271 with 3 HR and 12 RBI. He was named International League MVP in 2011 after posting a .318/18 HR/84 RBI line with AAA Durham that year. In 9 Mil seasons Canzler has hit 106 home runs.

    Luis Martinez, who the Orioles had claimed from Texas, was DFA's to make room for the righthanded power hitter.

    Canzler is considered a defensive liablity.

    In a very small sample, his major league line agains lefties is .393/.414/.679
