For a guy who was a question mark in many people's eyes in and out of baseball coming into this spring, Brian Roberts is playing like a man out to remove those questions.
The 35-year old second baseman looks like a totally different player then the weak, underperforming player who tried to play last year. Roberts put up just a .415 OPS in 17 games last season leaving many to wonder if the injuries had finished off the former top of the order spark plug.
Grant it he's just five games into the spring, but Roberts is not only getting on base, he's already collected three extra base hits including a home run while batting .538 with no strikeouts in 14 plate appearances.
Roberts defense this spring has been adequate overall and although there have been a few miscues, he's also made a few nice plays as well.
With $10 million owed to him this season, there seems to be little doubt now that if Roberts stays healthy, he's the opening day second baseman.
