KEYS HANG ON TO WIN SUSPENDED GAME
Drop Scheduled Game – Rubber Match Sunday Afternoon
Keys reliever Marcel Prado got out of an inherited eighth inning jam and the Keys added two insurance runs as Frederick held off Wilmington to win the suspended game from Friday night 6-4. The evening’s regularly scheduled game would not go the Keys way as Wilmington evened the series in a 13-1 final.
Leading 4-3 in the opener the Keys got a few big insurance runs. With two in scoring position and two outs, C Michael Ohlman laced a line drive over the Wilmington third-baseman Cheslor Cuthbert two score both runs. The Keys had grabbed a 6-3 lead and would not let go.
Prado got the save, the first of the year for a Key. The win ended a three-game losing streak.
Unfortunately the good times did not last long as Wilmington got off to a big early lead against starter Zach Petersime who was making his Keys debut.
Petersime retired one batter of the first five faced and the Blue Rocks loaded the bases with a run already in for first baseman Daniel Mateo. Mateo doubled down the right field line, clearing the bases and staking the Blue Rocks to a 4-0 advantage. Wilmington would add three more in the second inning and they never looked back.
With the Keys trailing 8-1 in the sixth inning, Wilmington added five more runs off of Keys reliever Jesse Beal.
