    Keys 4/14

    Written by Adam Pohl

Frederick battled back from an early deficit to score three unearned fifth inning runs and never looked back, taking the rubber match of the three-game series in Wilmington 6-3.

The Keys who scored two runs in 15 innings in the series against Wilmington starters got to the pen and did damage. In the fifth inning against reliever Malcolm Culver, the Keys loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batter. With two down, third baseman Nicky Delmonico hit a groundball that eluded the grasp of second baseman Justin Trapp. The misplay led to two runs on the play as SS Sammie Starr scored all the way from second base on the error. A batter later, right-fielder  Brendan Webb singled home a third Frederick run to grab a 3-1 lead. It was the Keys first hit of the inning.

Frederick got a solid start from right-hander Zach Davies. Davies went five innings allowing four his and two runs for his first Carolina League win. Only one run was earned.

The Keys added on in the late innings as first baseman Connor Narron hit a line drive home run over the right field wall in the eighth inning. It was Narron’s first home run as a Key. An inning later Narron added insurance with a two-out RBI-single.

Frederick got able work from the pen as left-hander Trent Howard pitched two more scoreless innings. Howard has not allowed a run in three appearances this year. Gene Escat came on to notch a twio-inning save, his first as a Key.
