Miguel Gonzalez faced Jake Odorizzi today on clear cold afternoon finale to an abriviated two game series with the Rays at Camden Yards. Good pitching, situational hitting and defensive highlights led the Orioles to a 3-to-0 victory.
Miguel Gonzalez pitche five innings allowing three hits and three walks and no runs. He stuck out six. He was lifted for the sixth inning due to an elevaled pitch count, in part because of the Rays hitting 26 foul balls.
Zach Britton pitched three scoreless innings. He faced a bases loaded situation with one out. in the seventh, but induced a ground ball for the second out and struck out Wil Myers to end the threat.
Tommy Hunter earned his fourth save with the ninth. He allowed only a single, and ended the game with a 96 mph fastball for a strike out.
Defensive Highlights/ Lowlights
Nick Markakis made a diving catch with runners at second and third with one out. It was such a tough catch, that he was able to get an easy double play at second base.
Chris Davis came off the bag to make a nice tag of Evan Longoria on a hurried throw from thirdbaseman Ryan Flaherty.
Key Moments In The Game
On a warmer day, Matt Wieters hits two grand slams. Instead he ended up with an RBI. It was too cold and the wind was blowing it. Matt himself said it was all he had.
Other Notes/ Musings
Adam Jones collected two hits. On on a bunt and one on a swinging bunt. Never left the infield.
The Orioles head to Boston for a Four Game Series. Staff Ace Chris Tillman takes the mound.
