Skanar's Hitting Prospect Report Through July 26

A pretty terrible week for Orioles hitting prospects. The GCL kids didn't hit at all, Delmonico was traded, Davis, Boss, and Veloz continue to disappoint, Walker can't hit AA pitchers, and Urrutia's in the majors.

Trey Mancini and Mike Yastrzemski had good weeks, and Ohlman was OK. Schoop crushed his rehab stints and is just back in Norfolk.

Let's hope they do better next week!

    Gulf Coast

    C Chance Sisco. Season: 41 PA, .361/.442/.389 (.831) 5 BB (12.2%), 5 K (12.2%). Since 7/20: 0-for-2
Only one game this week, after one game last week. Maybe a minor injury or something?

    C Jonah Heim. Season: 31 PA, .040/.226/.040 (.266) 6 BB (19.4%), 3 K (5.7%). Since 7/20: 0-for-3 with a BB
Also only played in one game this past week.

    C Alex Murphy. Season: 40 PA, .290/.439/.419 (.858) 9 BB (22.5%), 5 K (12.5%). Since 7/20: 6 PA, .333/.333/.500, 0 K.
One of his hits this week was a double, which is nice. With the catcher rotation in the GCL, these guys are getting only limited game time, but (within the small sample sizes so far) Murphy has an early lead on the other two.

    2B Yariel Vargas. Season: 86 PA, .293/.393/.320 (.713) 10 BB (12.8%), 17 K (19.8%). Since 7/20: 13 PA, .000/.077/.000, 4 K.
    Had a lousy week.

    OF Josh Hart. Season: 76 PA, .239/.346/.269 (.615) 9 BB (13.6%), 11 K (13.6%). Since 7/20: 17 PA, .188/.235/.250, 2 K.
Lousy week for Hart too, but he did hit one double (his second on the year).

    Aberdeen
    1B Trey Mancini. Season: 134 PA, .331/.379/.457 (.835) 7 BB (5.2%), 22 K (16.4%). Since 7/20: 24 PA, .381/.458/.524, 4 K.
Had the sort of week he needs to keep having to become a Christian Walker-type prospect. Good work so far, but plenty of reasons to doubt here (no defensive value, limited ISO for a slugger of .126). Let's hope he can keep this up.

    3B Hector Veloz. Season: 134 PA, .213/.255/.346 (.602) 7 BB (5.2%), 47 K (35.1%). Since 7/20: 23 PA, .143/.217/.143, 8 K.
More of the same from Veloz, which is pretty bad.

    OF Mike Yastrzemski. Season: 92 PA, .338/.448/.500 (.948) 12 BB (13.0%), 14 K (15.2%). Since 7/20: 22 PA, .350/.409/.650, 4 K.
Another solid week for Yaz Jr. Jr. Added some power, which is nice. If he can keep it up, maybe he'll be an actual prospect by starting next season at Frederick?

    Delmarva
    SS Adrian Marin. Season: 328 PA, .282/.329/.362 (.692) 19 BB (5.8%), 74 K (22.6%). Since 7/20: 21 PA, .238/.238/.286, 4 K.
Marin cooled off from his torrid three-week hot streak, despite a 4-for-5 game. Bat shows some signs of promise, but I remain concerned about the strikeouts.

    3B Torsten Boss. Season: 337 PA, .221/.314/.342 (.656) 39 BB (11.6%), 82 K (24.3%). Since 7/20: 15 PA, .143/.200/.143, 5 K
Well, Boss had another bad week. I can't justify tracking him any more. Disappointed!

    OF Roderick Bernadina.
On a massive tear, hitting .458/.480/.625 in his last 6 games. That's managed to bring up his OPS for the year to... .622. If he keeps it up for another 2-3 weeks, he might be worth bringing back.

    Frederick
    C Michael Ohlman. Season: 290 PA, .303/.401/.542 (.943) 39 BB (13.4%), 66 K (22.8%). Since 7/20: 29 PA, .231/.310/.423, 4 K.
Didn't have a great week, but at least shrugged off last week's slump. Hit for some power, and I believe he caught more games this week, as well.

    1B Nick Delmonico. TRADED.

    CF Glynn Davis. Season: 266 PA, .234/.315/.322 (.637) 27 BB (10.2%), 54 K (20.3%). Since 7/20: 29 PA, .259/.310/.333, 4 K
Average week for him, so not very good. Ks are coming down, a bit, but still needs to hit more.

    Bowie
    1B Christian Walker. Season (AA): 44 PA, .200/.289/.250 (.539) 4 BB (9.1%), 6 K (13.6%). Since 7/20: 20 PA, .150/.150/.200 (.350), 3 K
Hasn't yet adjusted to AA pitching.

    Norfolk
    SS Jonathan Schoop. Season: 139 PA .268/.331/.386 (.717) 9 BB (6.5%), 25 K (18.0%)
Just got back to Norfolk after putting the fear of god into GCL (1.269 OPS) and NYPL (1.671 OPS) pitchers. Let's hope he can finish the season strong in AAA.

    CF Xavier Avery. Season (AAA only): 222 PA, .218/.290/.287 (.577) 20 BB (9.0%), 52 K (23.4%). Since 7/20: 12 PA, .400/.500/.500, 2 K
Some hits in limited time this week. Doesn't change much overall, though.

    OF LJ Hoes. Season: 423 PA, .304/.406/.403 (.808) 58 BB (13.7%), 56 K (13.2%). Since 7/20: 27 PA, .250/.444/.250, 5 K.
Hoes had 7 BB this week. In other news, he'll be in the majors after tonight's game.

Off the list: Torsten Boss (dropped), Nick Delmonico (traded), LJ Hoes (promoted)
