    Afghanistan Diaries: The Book!

It's finally done and available. Afghanistan Diaries the book is now available here

What a journey this has been. From the deployment itself to the writing of these diary segments on the message board, to the publisher process, it almost seems surreal to finally see the book in print.

In case you are new around these parts or didn't read the Afghanistan Diaries forum while I was in Afghanistan, this book was born from that meager beginnings. Really, the diaries were just a way to keep family and friends informed of what was going on and it just sort of snow balled. The response and support I got was amazing so it sparked me to write more and more. As I got close to leaving Afghanistan, and with the prompting of the many folks from the message board and other friends and family, I decided I might have enough for a book.

The problem was I didn't have it finished. When I got back from Afghanistan all I wanted to do was relax. The book and the diaries became the last thing on my mind. I just wanted to spend time with Lorrie and the kids and just decompress. Every once in awhile though someone would ask, "When's the book coming out?" So finally, I sat down and wrote the conclusion and had it edited by fellow Hangouter Nowick Gray, who is a professional editor by trade. I then went back and tidied up some more areas and had enough to deliver to a publisher.

That process is whole other nightmare, but I finally found a great publisher in Booklocker.com. The idea was to get the book out as quickly as possible while retaining the rights in case a larger publisher wants to publish the book. And that's exactly what Booklocker.com allowed me to do.

The book is available at http://www.booklocker.com/books/2486.html right now but will be available on Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com in a few weeks. Since I'll be returning to the Baltimore area in less than two weeks, I'm sure we will be offering the book at appearances as well.

Hopefully you will read the book and enjoy it. It was a labor of love and I'm just thrilled to finally have it on the market. Hopefully you will help spread the word as well since we've got to promote the book (See what happens when you don't go for the big book companies?) ourselves.

I want to thank the many people who help inspire me to finish this project; many of them whose support I relied on throughout the year long deployment as well. Thank you all.

    Now, back to baseball.
