1st Hangout Take back the Yard Night a Success

How do you have a good time in Camden Yards during a 6-1 loss to the Red $ox? Easy really, you just sit in section with 60 other rabid Orioles fans, have a few drinks, eat four $1 hot dogs, and basically slam everything and anything associated with the Red Sox even if the O’s are losing.

That’s exactly what happened at our first Hangout Take Back the Yard night on Wednesday. Sure, the O’s melted down in the 7th inning and there were certainly a lot of Red $ox fans at Camden Yards, but that didn’t dampen our fun and enthusiasm.

In fact, we took pride in the fact that we chased away three Red Sox fans out of our section. How do you know we were doing things right? Our own usually mild-mannered Managing Editor Scott Hoffman actually got flipped off twice by Red Sox fans --including the double bird by one guy after the game ended.

Every time a Let’s go Red Sox chant started we countered with a Let’s go Orioles. Red Sox fans in other close by sections started to keep low a profile even as the Red Sox took it to the O’s bullpen in the 7th. We were not going to be denied and we weren’t going to let a few runs by the Pay $ox allow their obnoxious fans to start their arrogant chants.

We had plenty of Hangouters show up and hangout including Frobby, Witchy Chick, Baroquen131, Section 34, Silent James (who guess what, is not silent!), BustaJ2632, ItallionStallion, Weams and his lovely wife Melinda, Agent Orange (who brought along a good bit of friends) Steve A, Dr Lev, Jclrh, and of course Scott and I.

We even made some new friends including Chris and his Yankees fan wife who wore an Orioles hat and cheered against the Red Sox which made her by proxy, pretty cool anyway. Of course we can’t forget crazy beer drinking guy who won a pair of tickets to the next game for basically throwing up his beer in the air then catching it his mouth without spilling a drop.

With chants like “overrated” when Varitek cam up to bat and “Billy Buckner”, Red Sox fans were annoyed at us very early. Without cursing and without a threat of violence, we took back section 384 for a night against the Red $ox. After reading about people’s experiences in other sections, I can’t imagine watching a Red $ox or Yankee$ game anywhere else!!!!

Our next game is Friday May 4th against the Indians. For discounted $8 Upper Box (this is where we will mainly be sitting) or $6 Upper Reserve seats you have to call (410) 547-6288 and ask for the Hangout Section (384) discounted tickets for the May 4th game.

Also, before the game, come out a join us at Edgar’s from 5:15 to 6:45. It’s great place to drink a few beers, and have some good Orioles conversation before the game.
