I’m sure it wasn’t how Cody Sedlock dreamed his major league spring training debut would go. Fighting off command issues, the Orioles 2016 #1 prospect allowed four runs on two home runs in the 8th inning as the Phillies storm back for a 7-5 win over the Orioles. Sedlock left too many sinking fastballs in the middle of the plate and he found out those get hit real far, even when facing upper level minor leaguers. Sedlock was unable to throw his offspeed pitches for strikes and was grooving his fastball. Things will be better for him in the future but today was not his day.
Positives:
– Jayson Aquino threw two shutout innings, walking one and striking out four.
– Trey Mancini went 2-for-3 with two hard hit singles off fastballs and is now batting .364 this spring.
Negatives:
– Sedlock was hammered
– Caleb Joseph went 0-for-3 and left four runners on base, three of which in scoring position. Pitchers were able to get under his hands with fastball.
