Chris Dickerson homered and doubled to help power Norfolk’s offense to a 7-0 victory over the Norfolk State University Spartans in a seven-inning exhibition game Tuesday night at Harbor Park.
Dickerson doubled and scored in the first frame before belting a two-run shot to center field in the fourth, helping lead the Tides to a win in their final tune up before the regular season. Pedro Álvarez and Chance Sisco added RBI singles in the victory, while Michael Choice and Paul Janish added run-scoring sacrifice flies.
Tides starter Alec Asher retired nine of the ten batters he faced in three innings of work, striking out four. Logan Verrett, Parker Bridwell, Stefan Crichton, Jimmy Yacabonis and Scott McGough all worked out of the bullpen, with the quintet combining to allow two hits while striking out 12.
The game drew 4,566 fans, and was the seventh in the last eight seasons between the Tides and Spartans, who are a member of the MEAC conference. All ticket proceeds from the game benefited the Norfolk State University baseball program.
