Talk about making a strong first impression. Jeremy Hellickson was in control throughout his debut outing in Baltimore, tossing 7 shutout innings, allowing just five hits and a walk while striking out three. His only problem inning was the 6th when the Royals put runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Hellickson then worked out of the jam with a popup to catcher, strikeout, and groundout to first. He improves to 7-5 with a 4.45 ERA and is the Hangout Player of the Game.
Relief
- Mychal Givens retired the side in the 8th.
- Darren O’Day worked a scoreless 9th with a strikeout.
Hitting
- Caleb Joseph hit a two-run dinger, his 6th of the season.
- Chris Davis went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI.
- Trey Mancini went 2-for-3 with a double, walk, and two runs scored.
- Tim Beckham went 2-for-4 and drove in two, including an RBI triple in the 8th.
The Orioles are now 2.5 back in the Wild Card race and 5.5 behind in the division.
