After falling behind on a poorly pitched start, the Orioles roared back with power only to lose because of rust and fundamentals.
Starting Pitching
Dylan Bundy lasted only five innings allowing five runs on multiple home runs. He has not looked good in any start after returning to the rotation after spraining his ankle baserunning on his first career hit in the foolish interleague series.
Hitters
- Tim Beckham homered to give the Orioles their first lead.
- Chris Davis, represented by the Boras Corporation and making 23 million per year over the next five seasons, homered in the eighth inning.
- Caleb Joseph and Jonathan Schoop (playing with a heavy Manny-less heart) homered.
- Adam Jones singled and walked.
Other Pitching
Jhan Marinez, Brad Brach along with Miguel Castro all shut the door on scoring.
Mychal Givens did not enhance his trad value, allowing two runs.
Lefty Paul Fry took the L.
Fielding
Tim Beckman erred and had a poor throw. He was quoted “I had a lot more time than I thought. The play has to be made every time. We played a good game as a team, it sucks it came down like that.”
Fry deserved much better. Who is the official scorer! How in the world was that a walk off single; both Nunez and Beckham should have been hit with a error. Beckham didn’t look like a MLB defender that inning. It’s amazing how almost nothing is called an error anymore, it drives me crazy.
This has to be the worst defensive team I have ever seen at the MLB level.
The first play is the one that is completely unacceptable. Errors will happen, like the game winner going under his glove. But the first one that opened the door was due to Beckham having no idea about the game going on around him and trying to rush that play for no reason. The catcher was running, so he had plenty of time to set himself and make an accurate throw.
It’s mental errors like this all year in all facets of the game that make me think Buck has lost the team and we need a new manager next season.
