After several rain delays and not scoring at all until the eighth, the Orioles dropped a 5-3 decision to the league leading Boston Red Sox.
Kevin Gausman is the subject of multiple trade rumors. He allowed only a solo homer to Mitch Moreland until the fifth inning. Gausman came apart at that point losing his control and walking in a run before leaving with two out after a ground rule double and a single completed the scoring. He was charged with all five of Boston’s runs.
Miguel Castro relieved with three comfortable innings of three hit, no run baseball.
Jhan Marinez pitched a scoreless one and a third innings, allowing a hit and two walks yet no runs.
The Orioles scored on a Jonathan Schoop two run home run with Tim Beckham on board in the eighth inning. Caleb Joseph knocked in Renato Nunez in the ninth.
Offensively Jonathan Schoop went 2-for-4 with a home run (13), raising his season batting average to .235. He is also the subject of several trade rumors.
