The Orioles got to experience MLB’s new format for extra-innings for the first time last night. They won the game on a Pat Valaika single to lead off the 11th inning; Bryan Holaday scored from second base.
The Birds led most of the game until Tampa Bay scored three times in the eighth inning to tie the game.
Renato Nunez went 1 for 4 with 2 runs scored, 1 homerun, 1 RBI, 1 walk and 1 strikeout. Dwight Smith, Jr went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout and 1 stolen base.
Wade LeBlanc started the game and gave up 1 run on 4 hits over 5.1 innings pitched with 1 walk and 1 strikeout. He surrendered a homerun to Mike Brosseau to lead off the 6th inning before being relieved by Evan Phillips.
Valaika’s RBI single gave Travis Lakins, Sr his first win of the season.
