In what was a sloppy game (the Orioles committed three errors), the Boston Red Sox defeated the Orioles 8-3.
The sixth inning proved to be pivotal for the Orioles. The Orioles scored twice in the top of the inning via a Renato Nunez solo homer and a Rio Ruiz RBI double to make the score 4-3 in favor of the Red Sox.
Things fell apart in the bottom of the inning. A walk, a wild pitch, another walk, a RBI single and a Christian Vazquez three run homer made the score 8-3.
To make matters worse, the Orioles lost Evan Phillips to an elbow injury during the sixth inning. He left the game without recording an out.
Keegan Akin started, took the loss and struggled through 4.0 innings in which he threw 94 pitches, allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits and struck out 6.
Ruiz, DJ Stewart and Cedric Mullins each recorded 2 hits against Boston pitching.
