Career Stats
Quick Scouting Report Update: Acquired in the Mychal Givens trade, this left handed hitting shortstop/second baseman has shown above average plate discipline and the ability get on base (.405 career OBP) since being drafted in the 3rd round by the Rockies in 2018. A spray hitter who goes gap to gap, he can show occasional pull power. Has the ability to bunt to beat the shift and moves well on the bases. Unfortunately, a well below average arm limits his ability to provide value on the dirt, including second base where it hurts his ability to turn double plays. The Orioles are reportedly trying him in center field but early reports are he’s a “work in progress.”

Vavra’s lack of current defensive value limits puts a lot of pressure on the bat to produce at a high level. Obviously an improvement at second base or the ability to play the outfield effectively ups his value and his bat should play as an everyday regular, but if his defense doesn’t improve he could end up a bat first super utility.
