The Orioles beat the Red Sox 11-3 to complete a season opening sweep in Boston.
Baltimore native Bruce Zimmermann produced a quality start to record his first Major League win. Over 6.0 innings of work, the southpaw gave up 3 runs on 4 hit while walking one and striking out 5. Zimmermann pitched efficiently; he threw 73 pitches, 54 for strikes, in his 6.0 innings pitched.
Cedric Mullins was the star of the offense, an offense that saw runs scored by all but 2 in the lineup and every hitter but 1 record a hit off of Boston pitching. Mullins went 5 for 5 with 3 doubles, 3 runs scored and a walk for 8 total bases.
Mullins is the first Oriole ever to record 5 hits, 3 doubles and a walk in a single game.
Anthony Santander went 3 for 5 with one run scored, 2 RBI and a walk. Additionally, Trey Mancini and Rio Ruiz each tallied two hits in the game.
Cole Sulser looked solid in 2.0 innings of relief (1 H and 3 K) and Tyler Wells made his Major League debut in the 9th inning, allowing one hit and walking one.
For the record, Orioles starters threw 17.2 innings and surrendered 5 runs on 11 hits while walking 2, striking out 14 and allowing 1 homerun (JD Martinez off Zimmermann) in the 3-game sweep.
