The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees 4-3 in 10 innings on Thursday afternoon.
The win was a result of the sacrifice. With Ramon Urias on second, Pat Valaika’s sacrifice bunt advanced the runner to third with one out. Cedric Mullins walked it off with his sacrifice fly to centerfield. The Yankees did challenge if Urias left early but the win stood.
The Orioles had a chance to win the game in the 9th inning as they were 1 strike away for ending the game 3-2. Gleyber Torres lined a two strike pitch from Cesar Valdez the bounced over the wall for a double, scoring Mike Ford from second base.
Trey Mancini came up big for the Birds with a 3 for 4 day that saw him hit a 6th inning homerun. He ended the game with 1 run scored and 2 RBI as well.
Jorge Lopez (4.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 K) started but the story of the game was the bullpen. Five relievers combined pitched 6 innings, striking out 7, and despite allowing 4 hits and 4 walks, held the Yankees in check until Torres 9th inning double.
Tanner Scott struck out 2 and walked one in the 10th inning to earn the win, his first.
