The Baltimore Orioles lost to the Oakland Athletics by a score of 7-5 on Sunday, ending the team’s modest three game winning streak.
With the game tied at 5 going into the 8th inning, DJ Stewart (1 for 4, 1 Run) lost a bid for an extra-base hit, if not a homerun, when Ramon Laureano leaped and crashed into the outfield wall while making the catch on a drive to centerfield. Laureano bounced off the wall with the ball as a snow cone in his glove.
Adding insult to injury, Laureano then hit a two-out, two-run homerun off Travis Lakins, Sr. in the bottom of the 8th inning for the winning margin.
Offensively for the Orioles, Austin Hays went 2 for 4 with a homerun, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and 1 walk. Trey Mancini went 2 for 5 with 3 RBI while Ryan Mountcastle added a 2 for 4 effort with a double.
Bruce Zimmermann started but did not factor into the final decision. He allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, on 7 hits while allowing a homerun to Matt Olson, walking 2 and striking out 4.
First inning throwing errors by Stewart and Ramon Urias led to the unearned run. Urias also committed a throwing error in the 4th inning.
