The Baltimore Orioles won by a score of 8-4 on Saturday in Oakland. The Athletics did not look like the same team that had won 13 games in a row, a streak the Orioles broke a week ago.
Matt Harvey made the start and tossed 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while walking 3 and striking out 1. Three relievers, Cole Sulser, Tanner Scott and Dillon Tate, finished out the game with Scott (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 1 K) being the most effective.
The story of the game was the third inning. DJ Stewart started it off by reaching first on a Seth Brown error. The Birds loaded the bases with a single and a walk. Austin Hays (1 for 5, 1 R, 2 RBI) singled, scoring two runs, Matt Chapman cut off the throw and threw the ball into foul territory trying to get Cedric Mullins (1 for 3, 1 R, 2 BB) at third; the error allowed Mullins to score. Hays, who had reached third on the error scored when a Trey Mancini (1 for 5, 1 R, 1 RBI) short fly ball was mishandled by Elvis Andrus. A Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 3, 1 RBI) sacrifice fly scored Mancini. A wild pitch by Jesus Luzardo, his second of the inning, allowed Maikel Franco (1 for 4, 1 R, 1 BB), who singled, to score the sixth run of the inning.
Stewart (1 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI) finished the scoring with a two-run homerun in the 6th inning. He also provided a highlight catch and scare in the 8th inning when he crashed head first into the padding of the bullpen catching an Andrus fly ball.
Every Oriole in the lineup, including defensive sub Pat Valaika, recorded a hit in the game.
