The Baltimore Orioles were held to just four hits on Sunday by Red Sox pitching as they lost 4-3. Leading 2-1 through 5 innings, Adam Plutko allowed a Rafael Devers two-RBI double in the top of the 6th, So far in 2021, Devers has been an Oriole killer; he is hitting .333 (10 for 30) with 5 homeruns against Baltimore pitchers.
Hunter Renfroe homered in the 8th to extend the lead for the Red Sox. A Ryan Mountcastle (2 for 4, 2 RBI) RBI double in the home half of the 8th drew the Birds within one. An Adam Ottavino wild pitch advanced Mountcastle to third but the Orioles failed to capitalize. Pat Valaika looked at strike three to end the game.
Cedric Mullins homered in the 5th inning in going 1 for 4. Freddy Galvis (1 for 4) accounted for the fourth Orioles hit.
Dean Kremer started and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits over 5.0 innings. He walked one, struck out three and surrendered a 2nd inning homerun to Devers. Tagged with the loss, Kremer is 0-3 on the season.
