Tampa Bay completed a three-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles by winning 10-1 on Thursday. With the loss, the Orioles now have a 2-10 record since John Means tossed his no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners on May 5th.
Trey Mancini continues to carry the team on his shoulders. He hit his 10th homerun of the season in the 4th inning and finished the day by going 1 for 3 with a walk, a run scored and 1 RBI. Over the 17 games played so far during the month of May, Mancini is batting .328 with 5 doubles, 5 homeruns, 22 RBi and 8 walks; he also has a 1.027 OPS.
Overall the Orioles were limited to just one more hit in the game, a Ryan McKenna (1 for 1, 2 walks) 5th inning single. Following the game, McKenna was optioned to Norfolk (AAA) to make room for Anthony Santander’s return from the IL on Friday.
Dean Kremer started the game and was tagged with his 4th loss without a win. He lasted 3.0 innings and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits (2 homeruns) with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. Kremer’s ERA now sits at 6.35.
The Baltimore bullpen is so taxed that Stevie Wilkerson pitched the 9th inning. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits and one of those hits was a Joey Wendle homerun.
