In what has become an all too familiar and unpleasant pattern during this current losing streak, the Baltimore Orioles scored first only to give up that lead as they lost 7-4 to the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. The losing streak has now reached eight games.
Dean Kremer started and struggled with both his pitching and home plate umpire David Rackley. Several pitches Kremer thought were strikes were not called as such and that seemed to fuel his downward spiral.
Kremer, now 0-5 in 9 2021 starts, struggled to get through 4.0 innings of work. He allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, one a Jorge Polanco homerun, walked 3 and struck out 5. His ERA now stands at 6.87.
Making matters worse was the fact that Ryan Mountcastle (0 for 2, 1 run scored) left the game and is currently listed as day-to-day after being hit on the left hand (x-rays were negative) in the 6th inning.
On the positive side, DJ Stewart (1 for 4, 1 run scored, 1 RBI, 1 BB) homered for the second straight game.
Cedric Mullins went 2 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI. In a play that Minnesota manager Rocco Baldelli challenged, he was picked off second base by Twins started Jose Berrios in the first inning.
Pedro Severino went 1 for 3 with a double, 1 RBI and a walk.
