Sunday’s 18-5 win over the Cleveland Indians represented the most Orioles runs scored in a game since Aug. 2015 and the most hits (21) since Aug. 2019. The Orioles feasted on Cleveland pitching and took advantage of defensive lapses by the Indians. The Birds scored a few runs on defensive inattention and beat out hits on hustle when the Indians seemingly took their time in making a routine play.
The real story was the Orioles offense; every player in the starting lineup scored and every starter but one, ironically enough Trey Mancini (0 for 6), recorded at least 1 hit and 1 RBI.
The star of the weekend certainly was Cedric Mullins. He led off the game with a homerun and was a triple shy of the cycle. Mullins did try to stretch his 4th inning double into a triple but was thrown out at third in a play the Orioles unsuccessfully challenged. Mullins finished the day 3 for 4 with a double, a homerun, 2 walks, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.
During the weekend Mullins went 9 for 12 (.750) with a double, 3 homeruns, 3 walks, 5 runs scored and 4 RBI.
Ramon Urias (2 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI) also homered in the 8th inning.
Ryan Mountcastle continues to swing a hot bat as he finished the day 3 for 5 with a double, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI.
Anthony Santander (3 for 5, 2 runs scored, 3 RBI) and DJ Stewart (3 for 3, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and 1 BB) came up big as well.
Jorge Lopez started and made it through 5 innings to earn the win and finished with a line of 5.0 IP, 3 R, 4 H, 1 HR allowed, 3 BB, 2 K and a hit batter).
Hunter Harvey gave up 1 hit in 1.0 inning of relief while Rule-5 pick Tyler Wells struck out 2 in his 1.0 inning of relief.
Zac Lowther pitched the 8th and 9th innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, 1 a homerun, while striking out 3 before being optioned back to Norfolk post-game.
