The Baltimore Orioles were out-hit 17-6, out-homered 4-0 and out-scored 13-0 by the Houston Astros Wednesday night. The loss was the team’s fifth in a row. Making matters worse is the fact that the Orioles embark on a 10-day road trip starting on Thursday. All eyes will be on the team to see if they extend their current 19-game road losing streak.
Houston teed it up off starter Thomas Eshelman for 6 runs on 8 hits over 4.0 innings. Eshelman walked 1, struck out 1 and surrendered a Jose Altuve homerun in the fourth inning in losing his first game of the year.
Making his MLB debut, knuckleballer Mickey Jannis didn’t fare any better than Eshelman. He allowed 7 runs on 8 hits while walking 4, striking out 1 and coughing up 3 homeruns over 3.1 innings.
Dillon Tate finished the game by allowing 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 3 over 1.2 innings.
Cedric Mullins and Pat Valaika both went 1 for 3 with a double. Austin Wynns (1 for 2, 1 BB), Maikel Franco (1 for 3, 1 BB), Anthony Santander (1 for 3, 1 BB) and Austin Hays (1 for 1) accounted for the remaining Orioles hits on the night.
The Birds left 7 men on base and went 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position.
