The Orioles completed a three-game sweep of the Washington Nationals with a 5-4 win on Sunday. Trailing by 1 entering the 9th inning, a bases loaded sac fly by Pat Valaika (1 for 2, 1 RBI, 1 BB) allowed Maikel Franco (1 for 3, 1 HR, 2 Runs scored, 1 RBI, HBP) to score and tied the game at 4. A Ramon Urias (0 for 1, 1 RBI) pinch-hit fielder’s choice allowed Ryan McKenna (2 for 4, 2 Runs scored, 1 RBI) to score the walk-off winning run. His slide and tag was challenged by the Nationals but the call was upheld. The Orioles had loaded the bases by Franco’s hit-by-pitch, a single and a walk.
McKenna also hit his first MLB homerun in the fourth inning.
Trey Mancini (2 for 4, 1 Run scored,1 RBI) hit a homerun in the first inning that traveled 455 feet, the longest of his career.
Cedric Mullins went 2 for 4 and was caught stealing second base in the third inning on a Joe West call that was upheld upon challenge.
Starting pitcher John Means allowed 4 runs on 5 hits (1 homerun allowed) while walking 1, striking out 2 and hitting 3 batters over 6.2 innings.
