In what was a back and forth game, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Miami Marlins 8-7 on Wednesday.
The Marlins took an early 5-0 lead. Pedro Severino’s (1 for 4, 1 Run Scored, 3 RBI) three-run homerun in the 2nd inning closed the gap. Trey Mancini’s (1 for 4, 1 Run Scored, 1 RBI, 1 BB) homerun helped the Orioles tie the game in the 3rd inning. Miami took a 2 run lead in the 4th and the Birds tied the game in the 8th, setting the stage for the win.
Tanner Scott (0.2 IP) induced two groundouts in relief of Dillon Tate (0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) in the 9th inning, leaving a runner in scoring position and the game tied. Scott would be credited with the win in the end.
Cedric Mullins (1 for 4, 1 Run Scored, 1 BB) led off the 9th with a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on an Austin Hays (0 for 4) sacrifice bunt. Intentional walks to Mancini and Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 4, 1 BB) loaded the bases. A Ryan McKenna (0 for 0, 1 Run Scored, 1 RBI, 2 BB) walk won the game in “walk”-off fashion.
McKenna was also involved in the scoring in the 8th inning when he scored from third on a fielding error by Brian Anderson on an unnecessary throw to attempt to catch him off base.
Ramon Urias continued to shine, going 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and a walk.
Jorge Lopez started and allowed 5 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks, 2 strikeouts and 1 homerun allowed over 2.0 innings.
