The Baltimore Orioles travelled to Detroit on Thursday and put on a performance that was not gold-record worthy, falling to the Tigers by a score of 6 to 2. In a city where hits are made the Orioles managed only four.
Cedric Mullins (1 for 3, 1 Run Scored, 1 BB) led off the game with a triple but was caught in a run down and thrown out at home on a Trey Mancini (0 for 4) ground ball fielder’s choice.
A successful challenge in the fourth inning led to the team’s second hit; video review proved Ryan McKenna (2 for 4, 1 Run Scored). McKenna also singled in the 7th inning, reached third on a Maikel Franco (1 for 3, 1 BB) single and scored on a throwing error by Detroit outfielder Akil Baddoo.
Three walks and a wild pitch in the 8th inning produced the Orioles second run, scored by Mullins.
Alexander Wells made his second start of the season and added his name to a long list of pitchers. That is the list of pitchers who have surrendered homeruns to future Hall-of-Fame firstbaseman Miguel Cabrera; Wells allowed Cabrera’s 496th career homer in the 5th inning.
For the game, Wells allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, walked 3 and struck out 4 over 5.0 innings and with the loss is now 1-1 on the season.
Not to be outdone, Adam Plutko (2.0 IP, 2 Runs, 3 H, 1 BB) added his name to the list when he allowed Cabrera’s 497th homerun in the 7th inning.
