Sunday’s Orioles 6-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers did not look like a possibility based on how the contest started. Doubles by Austin Hays (1 for 4, ! Run scored), Ryan Mountcastle (2 for 4, 1 Run scored, 2 RBI) and Anthony Santander (2 for 4, 1 RBI) gave the Orioles a 2-0 lead. That lead quickly evaporated as did the O’s hits. The Birds tallied a hit in the 3rd inning and the 8th inning and that was all.
The Tigers crossed the plate three times in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Detroit pitching did the rest. Once the Orioles scored their two runs Ryan McKenna (0 for 3) and Austin Wynns (0 for 2) were able to work Tigers pitchers for a base on balls each.
Spenser Watkins toed the rubber to start the game and took the loss by allowing 4 runs on 3 hits while walking 2and striking out 4 over 5.2 innings of work. His record now sits at 2-2 with a 3.81 ERA.
Keegan Akin returned to the team after spending time on the Covid list and allowed 2 hits in one-third of an inning of relief.
Conner Greene struggled through 0.2 innings of relief, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with 1 strikeout.
Shaun Anderson represented himself well by striking out 2 over the final 1.1 innings of the game.
