The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees by a score of 7-1 on Monday night. The win was a result of two things, the Baltimore “Bombers” and solid pitching.
The Orioles jumped out to a 4-0 lead on solo homeruns by Cedric Mullins (2 for 5, 1 Run Scored, 1 RBI, 2 SB), Austin Hays (1 for 5, 1 Run Scored, 1 RBI), Ryan Mountcastle (3 for 4, 1 2B, 2 Runs Scored, 1 RBI) and Ramon Urias (1 for 3, 2 Runs Scored, 1 RBI, 1 BB).
Pedro Severino (1 for 3, 1 RBI) and Maikel Franco (1 for 3, 1 RBI) both hit doubles and run-scoring sacrifice flies.
Jorge Lopez made the best of his start for the Birds. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit, walked 5, struck out 4 and committed a balk over 6.0 innings, awarding him a well-deserved win.
The bullpen trio of Cesar Valdez (0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB), Paul Fry (1.1 IP, 1 BB, 1 K) and Dillon Tate (1.0 IP, 1 H) finished what Lopez and the bats started.
On a lighter note, there was a several minute delay in the bottom of the 8th inning when a “MVP” cat got on the field and eluded the Yankee Stadium grounds crew before exiting into the stands down the 3rd base line.
