Tuesday’s game with the Tigers was delayed for almost two hours. That delay must have had an ill effect on the Orioles as they never had the lead and ultimately lost by a score of 9-4.
Keegan Akin took the ball and made his ninth start of the year. It wasn’t pretty as he allowed 6 runs on 7 hits while walking 1 and striking out 5. The loss he was tagged with dropped his record to 0-6 with an ERA of 8.23.
Marcos Diplan (2.0 IP, 1 K) and Paul Fry (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 1 K) held the Tigers down while Adam Plutko (2.0 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HR allowed) and Alexander Wells (1.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 K) were not as effective.
Anthony Santander did all he could to help by homering twice and finished the game going 2 for 4, with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. DJ Stewart hit a homerun of his own and went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored and ! RBI. Sadly, three solo homeruns were not enough to catch the Tigers.
Austin Hays went 2 for 4 and Cedric Mullins went 1 for 4 with a double and 1 run scored.
The Orioles did manage to have men on base in both the 8th and 9th innings but failed to push a run across the plate. In fact, they had runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs in the 9th and could not score.
