On the day that Chris Davis announced his retirement from the Baltimore Orioles and MLB, DJ Stewart (2 for 4, 2 Runs Scored, 2 RBI) did his best “Crush” imitation by hitting a pair of homeruns against the Detroit Tigers. Despite Stewart wearing the team’s homerun belt twice it was not enough as the Tigers won the game 6-4.
John Means struggled through his start, allowing three homeruns, enough to trump Stewart’s effort alone. Means allowed 6 runs on 8 hits, walked 1 and struck out 3 over 4.1 innings. He took the loss and is 5-4 on the season.
The bullpen held the Tigers scoreless the rest of the game but the offense could not overcome Detroit’s lead.
Marcos Diplan (1.2 IP, 1 BB, 1 K), Tanner Scott (1.0 IP) and Tyler Wells (1.0 IP) all pitched hitless efforts and Cole Sulser gave up 2 hits in his 1.0 inning of work.
Cedric Mullins extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a 3 for 5, 1 run scored, 1 stolen base game.
Austin Hays went 1 for 5 with 1 RBI.
Anthony Santander went 0 for 3, was hit by a pitch and stole a base.
