The Baltimore Orioles lost Sunday’s game with the Boston Red Sox by a score of 6-2. The means that the Orioles haven’t won since August 2nd and that they have now lost 11 games in a row. Obviously, they have been swept in three consecutive series. Cedric Mullins went 0 for 5 as well, ending his 20 game hitting streak.
All in all, it was not a good day for streaks.
Two three-run innings and an anemic offense led to the Birds defeat. They managed just six hits, left eight runners on base and went 3 for 12 with runners in scoring position.
The Orioles scored their first run on a JD Martinez throwing error in the first and their last run on a Jorge Mateo (2 for 4) RBI single.
Keegan Akin started the game due to a “training room accident” to Bruce Zimmermann and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits while walking 3, striking out 2, hitting a batter and throwing a wild pitch. He surrendered a three-run homerun to Martinez in the first inning which allowed the outfielder to atone for his error in the top of the inning.
The other three-run inning was the sixth when Fernando Abad gave up the three runs on 1 hit and two walks. He struck out 1 in one-third of an inning.
Austin Hays went 1 for 3 with a run scored and a walk.
DJ Stewart went 1 for 1 with a double as a pinch hitter.
Anthony Santander and Trey Mancini both went 1 for 4 to account for the other Orioles hits.
