The Orioles lost their 80th game of the 2021 season on Tuesday when they lost 10-0 to the Tampa Bay Rays. While the O’s were held to 4 hits, the Rays hit 3 homeruns among their 11 hits in the game.
Austin Hays went 1 for 4, Ryan Mountcastle went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk in his return from the concussion list and Jorge Mateo went 2 for 3. That was the extent of the O’s offense.
John Means is now 5-5 on the season after taking the loss for his 4.0 inning effort. Means allowed 7 runs, 4 earned, on 8 hits and struck out 7. He surrendered homeruns to Mike Zunino and Nelson Cruz.
Tanner Scott also allowed a Cruz homerun. Scott gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and struck out 1 in two-thirds of an inning.
The Orioles left 6 men on base, didn’t get a runner into scoring position until the 6th inning and went 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position.
A team will not win with such a lackluster performance.
