The Orioles lost to the Atlanta Braves by a score of 5-4 on Saturday. The loss puts the O’s 2.0 games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks (41-83) in the sweepstakes for the 2022 #1 Draft Pick and extends the team’s losing streak to 17 games.
It was not enough obviously, but the totality of the Orioles scoring was the homerun; four solo homeruns left the Yard off Baltimore bats.
Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 4, 1 Run Scored, 1 RBI) hit a first inning homerun to extend his current MLB leading hitting streak to 13 games.
Anthony Santander (2 for 4, 2 Runs Scored, 2 RBI) homered twice and Ramon Urias (2 for 4, 1 Run Scored, 1 RBI) homered to go back-to-back with Santander in the 4th inning.
Jorge Mateo’s hitting streak ended when he flied out pinch hitting for Richie Martin (0 for 3) in the 9th.
For the second game in a row, Orioles batters did not work a walk against Atlanta pitching; 11 of the Baltimore 36 at-bats did result in a strikeout, however.
Matt Harvey made the start and took the loss, dropping his 2021 record to 6-13. The right-hander allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, 2 of which were homeruns, walked 1, struck out 5 and hit a batter.
Cole Sulser (1.0 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 3 K) allowed an Ozzie Albies RBI double in the 9th inning that gave the Braves a 5-3 lead. Santander’s second homerun in the bottom of the frame drew the Birds within one but Urias, Maikel Franco (0 for4) and Mateo could not capitalize on that homerun.
