EIGHTEEN! The Baltimore Orioles losing streak has reached eighteen games as a result of Sunday’s 3-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves. This current losing streak is the longest such streak since 2005 when the Kansas City Royals lost 19 games in a row. The Baltimore record is 21 straight (at the start of the 1988 season) and it is sadly enough in reach.
Trey Mancini (1 for 4) opened the home half of the fourth inning with a double and scored on a two out RBI double by Ramon Urias ( 2 for 4, 2 doubles). That was all the scoring the Orioles could muster.
Cedric Mullins doubled in going 1 for 3 with a walk.
Richie Martin went 2 for 3 before being pinch hit for by Maikel Franco (0 for 1) in the ninth inning.
Anthony Santander ( 1 for 4) and Jorge Mateo (1 for 3) rounded out the Orioles eight hits. The Orioles hitters left 8 men on base and went 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position.
John Means started, gave the team a quality start (6.0 IP, 3 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HR Allowed) and suffered the loss due to the lack of offensive support.
Jorge Lopez made his first relief appearance of 2021 in the 9th inning and struck out 2 while allowing 1 hit in 1.0 inning of work.
The team did get an A for effort from Braves manager Brian Snitker this weekend, who said “If you didn’t know watched this team play or watch them work, you wouldn’t know that’s what they’re going through. Credit to Brandon and his staff for keeping those guys going because they’re playing hard.” Unfortunately that was not enough to stop the streak.
2021 Record: 38-85
