Friday’s game with the New York Yankees was tied at 2 after nine innings; the Yankees scored a run in both the 4th and 5th innings only to see the Orioles do the same in the sixth and seventh. The Orioles took the lead in the 10th when Ryan Mountcastle’s (1 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 BB) single scored pinch-runner Ryan McKenna. The Yankees tied the game again in their half of 10th.
The Orioles had a few opportunities in the 11th. A Ramon Urias (1 for 4, 1 BB) single put runners on first and third with no outs. Anthony Santander (1 for 5) popped out and Jorge Mateo (1 for 4, 1 Run Scored, 1 RBI, 1 BB), whose 7th inning homerun tied the game, flied out to right on a ball not quite deep enough to score a run. Kelvin Gutierrez (0 for 2) struck out to end the inning.
Giancarlo Stanton ended the game with a lead-off RBI single off Dillon Tate (0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R), tagging him with the loss.
John Means started and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits over 5.0 innings. He also walked 2, struck out 5 and surrendered a homerun to Stanton in the 4th inning.
The bullpen combined to allow 1 hit, walk 1 and strike out 6 over 4.0 innings before the Yankees scored their 3rd run off Cole Sulser (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 K) in the 10th.
Trey Mancini went 2 for 4 with a homerun, 1 run scored, 1 RBI and a walk. He was the runner stranded on third in the 11th.
Austin Hays went 1 for 4 with a double.
In total, the Orioles had 8 hits in the game, left 10 runners on base and went 2 for 9 with runners in scoring position.
