The Orioles lost a close one to the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night. The two teams finished the regulation nine innings tied at 1 and both teams then scored in the 10th inning. The Phillies scored just one more run than the Orioles did to finish with a 3-2 win, however.
The Orioles scored their run in the 10th on an Austin Hays (1 for 4, 1 RBI, HBP) double that scored Kelvin Gutierrez (0 for 2, 1 run scored, 2 BB), who started the inning at 2nd base.
Cesar Valdez took the mound for the home half of the 10th and with Ronald Torreyes on second with two outs, intentionally walked Bryce Harper. He then gave up a triple to JT Realmuto, a shot to right that Anthony Santander (0 for 5) could not reach. Realmuto’s walk-off gave Valdez the loss with a line of 0.2 IP, 2 R, 1 H, 1 BB and 1 K.
The Orioles scored their first run in the 4th inning when Ramon Urias (1 for 1, 1 RBI) singled in Richie Martin (0 for 3, 1 run scored), who was hit by a pitch and advanced into scoring position when Gutierrez walked, both happened with two outs.
In what was a bullpen game for the O’s, Conner Greene started and allowed 1 hit while striking out 2, hitting a batter and throwing a wild pitch, all in 1.0 inning.
Six relievers were used between Greene and Valdez. Thomas Eshelman allowed the Phillies first run on 2 hits over 2.2 innings. He also struck out 3.
Dillon Tate allowed his inherited runner to score while also allowing 2 hits and striking out 1 in 1.1 innings pitched.
Tyler Wells struck out 1 during a clean 9th inning.
Cedric Mullins (2 for 5, 1 double) is still a homerun shy of the 30-30 club.
Pat Valaika went 2 for 4 with a double.
