On Sunday, the Orioles scored three runs in an inning twice. First in the third inning which made the score 4-3 in favor of the Red Sox. They did it again in the seventh, allowing them to take a 6-5 lead. That lead was short-lived however, as the bullpen immediately coughed up three runs in the home half of the seventh leading the Orioles to a 8-6 loss.
Starter Alexander Wells allowed the Red Sox to take the lead by giving up runs in the first three innings of the game. When he left the game after five innings the Red Sox had a 5-3 lead. The final line for Wells was 5 runs on 6 hits with 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, a hit batter and a homerun surrendered to JD Martinez in 5.0 innings of work.
Eric Hanhold (1.0 IP, 1 K) pitched a clean sixth inning to allow the O’s to take the lead in the seventh.
Conner Greene came into the game and saw the Sox take the lead. He allowed 3 runs on 3 hits (2 doubles) in one-third of an inning and was tagged with the loss when the O’s were unable to score over the final two innings of the game.
Cole Sulser (0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, allowed an inherited runner to score) and Dillon Tate (1.1 IP, 1 K) gave the Birds a chance to mount a comeback, a comeback that did not occur.
Ryan Mountcastle went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 walks.
Trey Mancini went 1 for 5 with a double and 3 RBI.
Austin Hays went 1 for 5 with 2 RBI.
Anthony Santander went 1 for 4 with a double, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and a walk.
