A version of homerun derby was played at Camden Yards on Saturday. The Baltimore Orioles out-homered the Cleveland Guardians 3 to 2 and won the game 5-4.
Trey Mancini (1 for 3, 2 Runs Scored, 1 RBI, 1BB) and Rougned Odor (1 for 2, 1 Run Scored, 1 RBI, 1 BB) each hit solo homeruns, Mancini’s was the longest homer by an Orioles player at 438 feet and Odor’s landed on Eutaw Street (393 feet).
The big blow was the third inning three-run homerun off the bat of Austin Hays (1 for 4, 1 Run Scored, 3 RBI).
The only other Baltimore hit came from Anthony Santander (1 for 4). The orioles did put those four hits to maximum use in winning the game.
Tyler Wells started and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, both Cleveland homeruns, walked 2 and struck out 1 in 4.0 innings of work.
What may be a sign the he needs more rest between appearances, Keegan Akin gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and walked 1 in 2.0 innings.
Felix Bautista (2-1) pitched a clean 7th inning and was credited with the win.
Jorge Lopez (1.1 IP, 1 K) earned his 7th save of the season ending the game with a swinging strikeout of Richie Palacios.
