Thursday night in Kansas City, the Orioles game with the Royals was a back and forth affair that ended with the Birds coming up short. The Orioles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third only to see the Royals answer with 4 runs in their half of the inning. Three Orioles runs in the top of the fifth tied the game and like in the third, the Royals answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame. The Royals tacked on another run in the sixth. The eighth inning saw the Birds score once and that was all; the Royals won 7-5.

The homerun chain did not make an appearance in Kauffman Stadium on Thursday. Three extra-base hits were all the Orioles could manage to produce.

Cedric Mullins went 2 for 5 with 2 doubles, 1 run scored and 1 RBI while Ryan Mountcastle went 1 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI.

Jorge Mateo stole his 14th base of the season in a 1 for 3, 1 run scored night.
