The Baltimore Orioles had a reunion with former Oriole Kevin Gausman on Thursday and it was not a fun one, at least not for Gausman. The Orioles split the series with the Blue Jays by winning Thursday’s game 10-2 and hung the loss on the former Oriole.
A six-run third inning busted the game wide open and helped put the game in the win column. Seven hits were tallied in the inning. A two RBI single by Ryan Mountcastle (2 for 5, 1 run scored, 2 RBI) opened the scoring. RBI doubles by Tyler Nevin (1 for 4, 1 2B, 1 run scored, 2 RBI) and Ryan McKenna (2 for 5, 1 2B, 1 run scored, 1 RBI) added to the scoring. When the third inning was over, the Orioles had a 7-0 lead.
Tyler Wells (4-4) made the most of those runs by giving the Orioles a quality start. He allowed 1 run (on a Teoscar Hernandez HR) and 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 3 over 6.0 innings. Wells was the winning pitcher.
Austin Hays hit his 9th homerun of the season and finished 1 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.
Cedric Mullins went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base.
Adley Rutschman went 1 for 4 with a double, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and a walk.
