Thursday night’s 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels extended the Baltimore Orioles winning streak to five games; the Birds have not lost a game so far this week. A win on Friday would equal the Orioles last six game winning streak which occurred in August of 2020.
The winning streak is notable as well as the O’s three-game sweep of the Texas Rangers was to start the momestand. Adding to the notable events this week was Adley Rutschman’s (1 for 4, 1 run scored, 1 RBI) second inning homerun. The homerun, Rutschman’s fourth of the year, hit the rail of the Oriole Park flag court and bounced onto the field of play. After a brief stutter at second base, Rutschman continued around the bases once his hit was ruled a homerun and he was able to wear the homerun chain for the first time at Camden Yards. Ryan Mountcastle went 1 for 2 with a double, 2 RBI and a walk.
Anthony Santander went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
Jorge Mateo (1 for 4, 1 run scored) stole his 21st base of the season while Rougned Odor (0 for 3, 1 walk) stole his first.
Jordan Lyles (5-7) produced his 7th quality start of 2022. The game winning right hander allowed 1 run on 5 hits while walking 2, striking out 4 and throwing a wild pitch over 6.0 innings.
Joey Krehbiel (1.0 IP, 1 K) and Cionel Perez (1.0 IP, 2 K) held the Angels at bay until Jorge Lopez earned his 15th save with a 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 K effort.
