On Sunday the Baltimore Orioles found themselves on the wrong end of a perfect game, falling to Tampa Bay 4-1. Tampa Bay pitcher Drew Rasmussen was perfect through eight innings and that perfection ended on the first pitch he threw in the ninth. Jorge Mateo (1 for 3) doubled down the third base line on the first pitch he saw from Rasmussen, ending the perfecto, advanced to third on a Terrin Vavra (0 for 1) groundout and ultimately scored on a Rasmussen wild pitch.
Jordan Lyles (9-9) made the start and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits (1 homerun) with 2 walks and 9 strikeouts over 4.1 innings and suffered the loss.
Three relievers, Joey Krehbiel (1.0 IP, 1 H), Keegan Akin (2.0 IP, 1 H, 2 K) and Logan Gillaspie (0.2 IP, 1 H) combined to limit Tampa Bay to three hits after Lyles left the game.
