Tuesday evening in Cleveland was not what the Baltimore Orioles were hoping for. Facing the AL Central leaders, the Guardians, the Orioles lost 5-1. If the loss wasn’t bad enough with all that is at stake approaching the month of September, the Orioles offense was silent except for a second inning single by Ramon Urias (1 for 4, 1 run scored).
Urias advanced to third following a walk and a ground out. Ryan Mountcastle (0 for 1, 1 RBI, 1 BB) sacrificed him in for the lone Baltimore score.
Cedric Mullins went 0 for 4 with a stolen base.
Anthony Santander went 0 for 3 with a walk and Jorge Mateo went 0 for 2 with a walk.
Starter Spenser Watkins (4-5) allowed all 5 Guardians runs on 6 hits, including a Josh Naylor homerun in the fourth inning. Watkins struck out 3 and lasted 4.2 innings in taking the loss,
Keegan Akin allowed 1 hit, walked 1 and struck out 3 in pitching the seventh and eighth innings.
