Held scoreless for five innings, the Baltimore Orioles scored three runs in the sixth inning Friday night to defeat the Boston Red Sox 3-2 at Camden Yards. A single and two consecutive walks loaded the bases in the sixth and forced Boston to get into the bullpen, a bullpen that subsequently allowed all three inherited runners to score.
The sixth started with a Kyle Stowers (0 for 2, 1 BB) strikeout. Cedric Mullins (3 for 4, 1 Run Scored) then singled and walks drawn by Adley Rutschman (0 for 3, 1 Run Scored, 1 BB) and Anthony Santander (0 for 3, 1 Run Scored, 1 BB) loaded the bases.
A wild pitch allowed Mullins to score then Ryan Mountcastle (0 for 3, 1 BB) walked to reload the bases. Gunnar Henderson (2 for 3, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB) singled to knock in Rutschman and Santander. The Baltimore bullpen took it from there and kept the Red Sox off the scoreboard.
Austin Voth started and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits (1 homerun), walked 2 and struck out 5 over 4.0 innings.
Jake Reed (2-0) tossed 1.1 clean innings to get credit for the win.
Dillon Tate picked up his 4th save by allowing a hit and a walk over the final 1.1 innings of the game.
