Sunday’s game with the Houston Astros made for a tough pill to swallow. Trailing 1-0 in the 8th inning, the Orioles tied the game at 1, they tied it again at 2 in the 10th inning and then surrendered 4 runs to the Astros in the 11th. The Orioles plated a run in their half of the 11th to account for the 6-3 final score.
Starter Austin Voth deserved better for his effort. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits and struck out 6 over 5.0 innings. The bullpen did their job for the most part, combining to keep the Astros scoreless for 4.0 innings. Five relievers limited the Astros to just 2 hits while walking 2 and striking out 2 over the four frames. It was the Baltimore bats that couldn’t rise to the occasion.
Dillon Tate, who recorded the final out of the 9th, gave up the run in the 10th to finish with a line of 1.1 IP, 1 R and 1 H.
The loss went to Keegan Akin (3-3) who allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, on 1 hit with 2 walks in just one-third of an inning.
Ryan Mountcastle went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
Rougned Odor went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.
Cedric Mullins went 1 for 5 with 1 RBI.
Jorge Mateo went 1 for 4 with a run scored.
Ryan McKenna, pinch running for Anthony Santander (0 for 4) in the 10th inning, also scored a run.
