The Baltimore Orioles won 14-8 over the Boston Red Sox on Monday night. The win keeps the team’s slim playoff hopes alive; the games are engaging and for right now, at least, mean something.
Monday’s game began with a Cedric Mullins (2 for 6, 1 HR, 1 3B, 2 Runs Scored, 3 RBI) homerun. The Orioles added 4 runs in the second, one on a Jorge Mateo (1 for 4, 1 2B, 1 Run Scored, 1 RBI, 1 BB) RBI double, two on Mullins triple and finally one on a failed pickoff attempt by Boston’s catcher.
A 1 hour and 40 minute rain delay followed and when play resumed, so did the Orioles bats. Anthony Santander (2 for 6, 2 Runs Scored, 3 RBI) homered in back to back innings (6th and 7th), Gunnar Henderson (1 for 2, 2 Runs Scored, 2 RBI, 3 BB) homered and Austin Hays (2 for 5, 2 Runs Scored, 1 RBI) did as well.
Kyle Stowers went 3 for 5 with a triple, 1 run scored and 2 RBI.
Starter Jordan Lyles (2.0 IP, 2 Runs, 5 H, 1 BB, 1 homerun allowed) did not return after the rain delay.
Spenser Watkins (5-6) was credited with the win. He allowed 4 runs on 8 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts over 4.1 innings.
