The Baltimore Orioles lost to the Boston Red Sox 5-3 on Thursday. Losers of three in a row and with time seemingly running out in the Wild Card race, the team heads on to New York City for a three game series with the Yankees.
The Orioles broke out to a 2-0 in the third inning only to see the Red Sox tie the game an inning later. Boston scored a run in the sixth inning and Kyle Stowers (2 for 4, 2 Runs Scored, 1 RBI) matched that with his 3rd homerun of the season in the seventh inning. A JD Martinez two-run homerun in the 8th inning accounted for the final score.
Adley Rutschman (1 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 BB) doubled in the first inning, breaking Cal Ripken, Jr’s rookie doubles record.
Gunnar Henderson went 2 for 4 with a double and Cedric Mullins went 2 for 5.
Michael Baumann started and pitched 4.0 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with 2 strikeouts.
Dylan Tate (1.0 IP, 2 R, 1 H, 2 BB), who surrendered the Martinez homerun, took the loss and is now 4-4 on the season.
Bryan Baker and Logan Gillaspie each pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Cionel Perez (1.0 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 K, 1 WP) was on the mound when the Red Sox tied the game at 3.
